5 Voicemail Tips for Calling an Attorney

09/24/2015 By Pat Iyer

voice mail messages for attorneysLet’s assume you’ve gotten a phone call from an attorney about a new case. You are following up in the hopes of getting the work. You call the office and the gatekeeper puts you through to the attorney’s voice mail. Here is a way to confidentally structure that call. Smile when you pick upt he phone so your voice sounds more pleasant.

1.

Who are you?

Say who you are and what case you are calling about. Attorneys handle many cases and may not immediately recognize your name. “Hi, this is Terry Quentin. I am calling you about the Richard Hawkins versus St. Marie Medical Center.” This makes you sound professional.

2.

What is your number?

Know how annoyed you feel when you have to keep replaying a message to be able to decipher a phone number? Attorneys can’t call you back if they don’t have your number. Give your phone number – say it twice – slowly.

3.

What is the reason for your call?

Tell him why you have called. You might say, “The reason for my call is that we spoke about this case last week. I would like to know if you need my assistance with this case. I am happy to answer any additional questions you might have.”

4.

Why should he call you back?

Emphasize the benefits of working with you. “When you talked with me about this case, you explained that you had voluminous medical records that you wanted to have help with. I am confident my services will help you understand the critical medical details of the case, and make your life easier.”

5.

How does the attorney reach you?

Even though you have already given your name and phone number, repeat it again, slowly and clearly, before you hang up. You’ve now given it a total of four times. Some attorneys may listen to the first part of your message and hang up before it is over. If you have captured the attorney’s attention, he or she now has your phone number again without having to relisten to the message. End the message by expressing your interest in working with the attorney.

Here’s the full sample message

“Hi, this is Terry Quentin. I am calling you about the Richard Hawkins versus St. Marie Medical Center case. My phone number is 888-123-4589. Again that is 888-123-4589. The reason for my call is that we spoke about this case last week. I would like to know if you need my assistance with this case. I am happy to answer any additional questions you might have. When you talked with me about this case, you explained that you had voluminous medical records that you wanted to have help with. I am confident my services will help you understand the critical medical details of the case, and make your life easier. I would appreciate a chance to assist you with this case. You may reach me at 888-123-4589. Again that is 888-123-4589. I look forward to talking with you.”

The attorney may have made several calls to legal nurse consultants about this case. Your voice mail will stand out as professional, stressing the benefits of working with you, and making it easy for the attorney to know how to reach you.
