Having authenticity brings success to an LNC. People want to hire and work with those they know, like, and trust. That’s reasonable. The best way to earn the trust of your clients is to be authentic in how you present yourself to your attorney clients.
What is authenticity?
Authenticity means being your true self in both words and actions. Say what you mean, and do what you say. Your passion, honesty and integrity should be evident. Attorneys will judge you to see if you do what you say.
Some people may believe that there’s a subtle nuance to authenticity that really means being yourself in the correct setting.
For instance, wearing a business casual outfit to a virtual meeting with a client could be disrespectful. Take your environment into consideration without compromising your true authenticity. You can change your clothes to fit in without changing who you are at your core.
If you start cursing in the middle of a zoom meeting or in your emails or on your social media posts, even if that’s how you speak at home, it could be seen as disrespectful and off-putting. Take your audience into consideration and simply modify your language while maintaining your authenticity.
No matter how you define the word authenticity, it’s an important trait when it comes to company branding and associating yourself as your company’s spokesperson.
Who Would You Do Business With?
A used car salesman stereotype has a bad reputation of coming across as dishonest. What comes to your mind when picturing a used car salesman? Is it a tacky guy who wants to sell you a car, even if the car is not worth the price?
Or, you feel he knows there are mechanical problems but he doesn’t tell you about them? For most people, that would turn them off from buying because you wouldn’t know if he’s telling the truth or just wanting to sell you a car.
Someone who’s authentic would have a genuine interest in wanting to help you, in this example, by selling you a reliable used car that actually works. They would answer any questions you might have and would find the answers if they didn’t know them right off the bat. They would be honest about the inner workings of the car and would be disappointed if you walked away from the deal, but you wouldn’t feel pressured to buy something you’re not ready for.
Which of these salespeople gives you the better authenticity vibe in this example?
Your reputation is everything, so don’t tarnish it. When you are working with an attorney, you represent them. Keep these things in mind when you are online or in public. It’s not just your name at stake, it’s also their name.
Authenticity + Transparency
You don’t have to be perfect. But, you do need to be authentic.
Define your core brand purpose and define your ideal client. When you know what the expectation is, it’s easier for you to project that professionally. For example, as an LNC, you know that you need to dress and speak specifically for the role you portray. This does not compromise your authenticity.
In conclusion, especially as an LNC, your appearance does matter. The way you carry yourself and speak is vital. Mindset is important. The expectations of people in your field are higher and you must meet those expectations to be successful.
Never compromise yourself! Even if it means you cut ties with someone, it’s better to remain true to yourself above all else. Be honest in your dealings with all people, and you’ll keep the trust of your clients and colleagues.
