Video marketing with Instagram Live provides live broadcasts. You can go live alone, or with a guest and (as of March 2021) in a “room” if you’d like to go live with more than one other person.
When you go Live, your username will show a colorful ring around it and the word, “Live.” It shows up to your audience in the same place as Instagram Stories. Viewers can watch in the app OR on Instagram.com.
Why should you use Instagram Live?
Going live on Instagram is one of the best ways to connect with your potential clients and active attorney clients in a direct, transparent, and authentic way. IG Lives are also great for creating engagement, sharing news, and establishing your brand and your authority.
IG Lives can show your viewers what your personality is like, what your communication style is like, and how you view the medical legal field. What are you all about? Going Live – quite simply – can help others get to know you.
When you go live on any platform, you’re developing trust with your audience because they can see and hear you–the UNEDITED you! They will see your tongue-tied flubs and how you handle making mistakes. They will see how you handle tech problems and if you keep your cool when things don’t go as planned.
Stumbles? Mistakes? Flubs? All this may sound scary, but it leads to trust because they see YOU as the person and not the brand.
Your stumbles make you more human and therefore more approachable.
All of a sudden, you’re just like them but with the knowledge of how to help solve their problems.
These live videos will also grow your audience by boosting your discoverability on Instagram. Anyone who is live gets bumped to the beginning of the viewer’s Instagram Stories “feed,” and followers will also receive an in-app notification that you’ve gone live.
When you WOW these brand-new viewers, they will follow you to learn more about you and see what you have to offer.
2 Downsides of Instagram Live
Although IG Live is a wonderful tool, I want you to be aware of a couple of downsides:
- Instagram Lives stay on your Instagram Stories for 24 hours for your audience to catch. That’s not a lot of time, however, you can save your own Instagram Lives to repurpose elsewhere. To save an IG Live, you can only do this immediately after ending a broadcast. Just tap, “Download Video” to save it to your camera roll.
- Instagram Lives require a strategy just like any other marketing strategy, and there are a few best practices you should follow. Popular types of content to share on Instagram Live include interviews, Q&As, tutorials or how-to videos, tips, and tricks videos, as well as mini-workshops.

Video Marketing with Instagram Live Ideas
Interviews. You can interview others on IG Live. If you’re looking for a quick way to expand your audience, collaborate with someone who your target audience always respects. Ask them for a quick interview via Live and allow them to speak on their area of expertise to bring a fresh perspective to your audience on a topic that’s relevant to them.
Q+As. You can offer live Q&As where you let the users ask you any questions they have about a particular topic. Go Live to answer some of the most common questions you’re asked. You can also invite an attorney client, for example, and allow your audience to ask them questions in the same way.
Livestream at an event, such as an attorney conference where you are exhibiting.. When you’re at industry events, you can go Live to give your audience an “insider’s look” at what’s going on. That said, you shouldn’t Livestream anyone without permission (your event coordinator should let you know if Livestreaming is NOT allowed).
My goal here is to get you intrigued about what video can do for your business. In my upcoming blog posts, I will share more information about the power of video to use in your marketing plan for your LNC business.
