Barbara Levin is immediate past chair of the Massachusetts Board of Nursing Registration, a past president of AALNC, and an orthopaedic nursing expert witness. She is the Clinical Scholar of the orthopaedic trauma unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Barbara has been published on many orthopaedic and legal nursing topics and has collaborated with Pat Iyer on several publications.

David M. Benjamin is a Ph.D. A trained Clinical Pharmacologist & Forensic Toxicologist, a trained arbitrator, mediator, and nationally-recognized scholar in Legal Medicine, Reducing Medication Errors, the Drug Development process, and Forensic Toxicology. He teaches Forensic Toxicology at Northeastern University School of Pharmacy where he holds the rank of Affiliate Associate Professor and teaches Legal Medicine at Tufts Medical School. He is a prolific author with more than 250 presentations and publications.

Anne Meyer, BSN, RN, LNCC, is President of Med-Law Connection, Inc., an independent legal nurse consulting firm started in 2005. Anne brings over 31 years of professional nursing experience to her work as a consultant and expert witness. She has worked in both staff and administrative positions in a variety of settings including: hospital, home health care, long term care, rehabilitation and insurance.
Aside from patient care much of Anne's time has focused on regulatory compliance with Medicare, local and state government agencies as well as educating staff and implementing processes to ensure safe and quality patient care. Identifying the correct terminology of what you are requesting to review can be crucial in your success of getting what you need.

The Role of the LNC in Defense Cases
What happens in litigated claims when the LNC works with the claims adjuster and defense counsel? Because litigated claims often involve complex medical issues and complicated injury information, the LNC's role is to provide the defense team with a deeper analysis and understanding of the injury data points and how they work strategically in the case.
While the LNC's work product will vary, e.g., a chronology or timeline, or information to assist with a line of questioning, all roads lead to the Mechanism of Injury (MOI). Analysis of the medical data points and how they do, or do not align with the MOI is a crucial part of the defense work up. This presentation will take a deep dive into MOI and how a sound analysis will help build a strong defense case.
